Methodist Theological Institute, Sagamu started in 1951 as Rev. E. A.
Adeolu Adegbola travelled nooks and crannies of Wesleyan Methodist to
conduct;Lord of my Life’ conference through which
he got candidates for the ministry. He commenced academic activities in
1952 with seven students. The Institute was established for the training
of Lay Pastoral agents for the Church both male and female. It also
includes the training of Lay Preachers, Sunday School Teachers, Youth
Leaders and other Church Leaders. In 1993 Conference, the Conference
upgraded it to the status of Ministerial training for the Word and
Sacrament with the award of Diploma in Theology. Since then it has
developed in leaps and bounds.
The Institute was affiliated with the
University of Ibadan, for the Diploma in Religious programme in 1997 and
the academic programme commenced in 1997/1998 session. Presently, as a
result of exposure of Academic Staff to higher education both within and
overseas, the institute’s Diploma in Theology Programme was upgraded to
Bachelor of Theology (B.Th) in 2008. The first set graduated in June,
2012. The College is now an affiliate of Wesley University, Ondo.
